Core Deposit Return Standards: The Four Mandatory Acceptance Rules
Certain heavy-duty components—specifically starter motors, high-output alternators, direct injection fuel pumps, and specialized brake calipers—carry a refundable core deposit. Remanufacturing facilities require spent original cores to rebuild components to OE standards.
To receive a full 100% core deposit refund, returned cores must pass four mechanical criteria at our Charlotte trade counter:
- Same Part & Configuration: The returned core must be the exact identical component, mounting pattern, and electrical generation as the replacement unit purchased. You cannot purchase a 160A high-output alternator and return an old 90A domestic unit.
- Completely Drained of Fluids: Fuel pumps must be drained of all gasoline or diesel fuel. Calipers and power steering units must be thoroughly drained of hydraulic fluid. Components leaking fluid will be rejected at the counter due to hazardous materials regulations.
- Intact Casing & No Mechanical Destruction: Casings must be intact without structural cracks, broken mounting ears, cut wiring harnesses, or hammer marks. Burned starter solenoids resulting from prolonged engine cranking or locked flywheels are ineligible for core credit.
- Original Manufacturer Packaging: The core must be returned in the clean, dry original manufacturer box that held the replacement part. This ensures proper part number scanning and secure freight back to the remanufacturer.
Core Refund Timelines, Freight Protocols, and Fee Schedule
All core returns must be delivered to our trade counter within 30 calendar days of original invoice issuance. Core deposits are processed through the following fee schedule:
For will-call customers, cores may be handed directly across our counter at 606 NC Music Factory Blvd during operational hours. For regional trade accounts across North Carolina, cores must be packaged securely and shipped prepaid to our facility. AutoMoto Shop does not accept freight-collect core shipments.
Counter Defect Claim Intake and Bench Testing Protocol
When an installed part is suspected of premature failure or factory defect, our Parts Manager coordinates an immediate technical review. We do not require commercial accounts to wait weeks for distant factory audits.
Our 3-step counter defect intake process follows strict engineering procedures:
- Step 1 — Counter Intake Submission: Bring the component to our Charlotte counter or contact office@automotoshop.click with the original invoice number, installation date, vehicle mileage, and diagnostic fault codes (DTC).
- Step 2 — Technical Bench Inspection: For electrical components (starters, alternators, batteries), our counter performs an automated load and diode test within 48 hours. For mechanical fuel pumps and brake rotors, runout and tolerance measurements are checked with dial indicators.
- Step 3 — Resolution within 7 Business Days: If the bench test confirms internal coil failure, open diode rectifiers, or casting defects, an immediate warranty replacement or credit is issued under factory RMA provisions.
Strict Warranty Exclusions and Diagnostic Labor Disclaimers
AutoMoto Shop is an automotive parts distributor and trade supplier. We do not operate an installation repair facility, and our component prices do not incorporate third-party labor guarantees. The following expenses are strictly excluded from all warranty claims:
- Labor Charges & Diagnostic Time: Shop labor rates, diagnostic equipment hookup fees, or mechanic installation hours are entirely the responsibility of the vehicle owner or repair facility. AutoMoto Shop will not reimburse labor under any circumstances.
- Towing & Storage Fees: Roadside recovery, flatbed towing, and commercial impound or storage expenses resulting from vehicle breakdown are excluded.
- Fluid & Consumable Loss: Lost engine oil, synthetic transmission fluid, coolant, or refrigerant resulting from a failed seal or ruptured line cannot be claimed.
- Commercial Downtime & Vehicle Rental: Loss of fleet earnings, rental car fees, travel accommodations, or consequential business losses are strictly non-compensable.
- Improper Installation & Misapplication: Parts damaged due to incorrect torque specifications, stripped fastener threads, contaminated lubricant systems, or failure to replace the fuel strainer during pump installation are void of warranty coverage.
Will-Call Physical Inspection and 48-Hour Damage Window
Commercial clients and motorists picking up components at our Charlotte trade counter are requested to inspect packaging and parts before signing the counter dispatch manifest. Our staff will open factory boxes upon request to confirm rotor machining, battery terminal polarity, and starter connector pins.
For components delivered via regional freight courier, any physical transit damage, missing hardware kits, or discrepancy between invoiced part numbers and received components must be reported within 48 hours of delivery. Failure to report visible damage within 48 hours precludes subsequent transit damage claims.
